WP Hosting Turns 10

Exactly 10 years ago we announced the launch of WP Hosting on this very blog, just a handful of days before the release of WordPress 2.6.3.

It wasn’t a particularly significant update as it only comprised security and bug fixes and no shiny new feature. Ten years on, we’re waiting for version 5.0 to be released and the new Gutenberg editor, arguably the biggest update to the platform to date, has been installed over 500K times.

WordPress, and the ecosystem around it, has grown dramatically with 30% of *all* websites running on it. It’s an incredible milestone and testament to what an open, community-driven model can achieve. This rings particularly true given the challenges affecting tech giants these days.

Back in 2008 we were one of the first specialists WordPress hosting providers in the world. Ten years on, we’re proud to have served thousands of businesses, remained independent, 100% Australian owned and with all of our team working in our office in Melbourne.

But rather than celebrate the tech or our own achievements, we take this opportunity to thank those who have contributed to the development of WordPress, including many Australian devs that have given up much of their spare time to help improve the platform. We would also like to thank those who work tirelessly to make Australian WordCamps as awesome as they are.

We would also like to thank our customers for their continued support. It’s been a pleasure to serve a wide variety of Australian businesses, from solopreneurs to retail giants, as well as our developer and agency partners.

Like Erin, customer number 6, a writer and journalist from Sydney. Or David, founder of 4Sure Online – one of our first agency partners. Or Rebecca from Volunteering Australia, a recent sign up, doing some great work in the community.

We look forward to hosting your WordPress websites and help you in your digital journeys for many more years to come.

Talking of which, stay tuned for a number of exciting developments we’ll be announcing over the coming months.

Thank you.
