What is auDA?
To understand auDA policy domain suspensions, you first need to know what “auDA” is.
- auDA – the .au Domain Administration
When you register an Australian domain name (like .com.au, .org.au, .au, etc), it’s governed by auDA – the .au Domain Administration
auDA sets the rules for who can hold a .au domain, eligibility criteria, what information must be kept up to date, and how policy breaches are handled, etc.
WP Hosintg vs. auDA – our roles
- auDA (governing policy body for .au domains):
- Sets and enforces the rules for .au domains
- Reviews domains for eligibility and compliance
- Issue suspension notices if a domain is found to be in breach of policy
- Can suspend or delete domains if in breach of policy
- WP Hosting (domain provider):
- Provides you with the registration service and domain management tools
- Provides an interface to keep domain contact and registrant information up-to-date
- Passes on information we receive from auDA/the registry if your domain is flagged
- Cannot suspend or delete domains
How suspension notices work
- If auDA identifies a possible policy breach, they will send a suspension or information request notice directly to the email address listed as the domain registrant contact in the domain record
- This email does not come from us – it comes from the registry directly
- If we are made aware of the policy breach or suspension, we will also attempt to contact you using the email address linked to your WP Hosting account
- Failure to comply or respond may result in domain suspension and deletion
Keeping Contact Details Up to Date
It is vital to keep your information up-to-date.
It’s the responsibility of the account owner/domain registrant to make sure both sets of contact information are accurate:
- Domain registrant contact details – these are listed in the domain record itself. This is where auDA will send compliance notices.
- Your WP Hosting account details – this is how we contact you if we’re notified of a suspension or issue.
IMPORTANT:
If either of these are outdated, you may miss important warnings, which could result in your domain being suspended.
How to Update Your Details
It is essential to keep your domain contact information up-to-date along with your WP Hosting account details. You may also need to update domain registrant details by performing a Change of Registrant (COR).
