The ‘business-focused CMS’ is calling for testers.

With the upcoming WordPress 5.0 update comes Gutenberg, its new drag and drop page builder that is designed to replace the current version of its editor.

While several page builders and plugins have already started redesigning and upgrading for compatibility with Gutenberg’s block construction style, marketer and programmer Scott Bowler decided to launch a forked version of WordPress as it currently is. Aptly named ClassicPress, it has announced its first alpha release, codenamed Sunrise.

“We want to get back to basics and focus on open dialogue and democratic decisions,” ClassicPress’ founding committee has stated on their website. As such, they are calling on parties interested in volunteering to test and provide input on two specific parts of their alpha launch: ClassicPress itself and its migration plugin, which switches a WordPress site into a ClassicPress site.

ClassicPress, the concept for which was just launched in August 18, 2018, quickly evolved from concept to reality in only a matter of weeks. The community-led fork of the classic WordPress believes that the original editing experience is a tried and tested solution to our online publishing needs. Founder Scott Bowler believes that any drastic, unnecessary changes would be detrimental to any project. “If it isn’t broken, we won’t fix it,” is stated by ClassicPress as a core purpose in its Mission Statement.
